Judge blocks plan to build a water filtration plant in Van Cortlandt Park
Plans to build a water filtration plant in Van Cortlandt Park under the Mosholu Golf Course have hit a roadblock.
Just one week after the City Council approved the project, a state judge issued a restraining order to halt the building of the plant. The judge's decision comes in response to a lawsuit filed by Friends of Van Cortlandt Park. A number of groups have opposed the project from the start because it involves ripping up part of the park.
Supporters of the plant say it would create more jobs, plus Bronx parks would get $220 million from the state to fix up parks in the borough since it would be home to the plant.
