Residents complain of Soundview school environment and traffic troubles

(10/06/04) SOUNDVIEW Residents in Soundview are continuing to call for changes in the area around the Soundview Educational Institute.

Many who live in the area say the traffic generated by the school is causing unwanted congestion and unsafe conditions. Residents are pushing for a stoplight to be placed near the facility to help coordinate vehicle traffic.

Neighbors have also raised concerns about the environment stemming from the school. They say the facility was built on the property of a former electronics manufacturing plant. Although city officials say the site was cleaned, many residents are asking for more testing to make sure the area is safe.
