Soundview car thefts not to blame for rising auto insurance rates
New York drivers are paying the second highest auto insurance rates in the country. According to police statistics, more than 500 cars were stolen in Soundview from January through September 2004.Although more cars are stolen from Soundview than any other area in New York, a spokesperson for the AAA says that fact has nothing to do with the increased cost of car insurance. He said car thefts used to cause higher insurance rates, but now insurance fraud is to blame. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners says Bronx residents pay an average of $1,090 per year for car insurance.
