Volunteers clean up Bronx Park as part of annual Bronx River Golden Ball Festival

(10/09/04) BRONX RIVER FOREST - Some Bronx residents spent their Saturday celebrating Bronx Park by giving it a makeover.

Volunteers picked up trash and did some weeding as part of the 6th annual Bronx River Golden Ball Festival. Organizers say it is the largest environmental event of the year in the borough. The work is part of a long-term project of the Bronx River Alliance.

The all-day festival also included nature walks and a celebration at the Bronx Zoo with live entertainment, tours and food. Officials say the event is intended to celebrate the community effort in transforming the Bronx River.
