Bronx lawmakers calling on mayor to end Meals on Wheels pilot program

Some Bronx lawmakers are calling on the mayor to end a Meals on Wheels pilot program claiming that delivery problems have left a number of seniors hungry.

Hundreds of complaints have been filed since the program launched a little more than a week ago. The complaints range from late meal deliveries to meals not being delivered at all.

Bronx lawmakers want the mayor to restore the old Meals on Wheels system. One lawmaker said Bronx seniors should not be used as guinea pigs in the city's attempt to cut costs.

The commissioner of the Department of Aging admits there were some glitches with the new program but says calls to abandon it are premature.
