Mayor signs bill into law that cracks down on electrical companies

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has a signed a bill into law that now requires electrical companies to develop inspection and repair guidelines with regard to stray voltage. Companies will also have to educate the public on the dangers of stray voltage.

The new law comes after public outcry over a woman being electrocuted last winter by stray voltage when she came in contact with a manhole cover. Con Edison tested manhole covers throughout the Bronx and city after the incident.

In response to the law, a Con Edison spokesperson said, "Con Edison is continuing the aggressive testing and inspection program we initiated and we are working closely with the city and state."
