University Heights residents will save money on their heat and electric bills

Some University Heights residents will soon be getting cheaper heat and electric bills.

New energy conserving buildings are going up around the Bronx including in University Heights. Solar panels will cover the roof converting sunlight into energy used for heat and electricity. Lighting in the new buildings has motion sensors turning off when no ones using them.

Bronx hospitals are also considering solar power. Engineers say solar power will reduce overall electric costs by 35 percent. That would save the taxpayer $180,000.
