Two Bronx politicians endorse Jeff Klein for state senate in switch to unite Dems.

(10/24/04) RIVERDALE - Assemblyman Jeff Klein got some political backing in his run for state senate on Sunday.

At a news conference, State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz and Congressman Eliot Engel endorsed Assemblyman Klein as their senate candidate to fill Guy Vellela's vacated seat. This marks a reversal from their earlier endorsement of Klein's opponent in the primary, Assemblyman Steve Kaufman. The two Democrats say they are now endorsing Klein to unite the party.

Democratic party leaders say they believe it is essential this year that Democrats are united when they head to the voting booths on Election Day.
