BX officials pass resolution urging reinstatement of assault weapons ban

The Bronx borough president and board are making their own plea to get the federal assault weapons ban reinstated.

The ban was not renewed by the president and Congress a little more than a month ago. Although the city has its own laws in place, the borough president and board passed a resolution urging the president and Congress to reinstate and strengthen the ban.

Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. says allowing the sale and manufacturing of assault weapons will eventually affect the markets with the largest buying power. Both Carrion and other community members do not want to see those types of weapons making their way to the Bronx.

In addition to the resolution, Carrion said he would be forming a task force against gun violence.
