Local candidates vying for Velella's seat cast votes in the Bronx
Local candidates for the three-way race are out casting their votes for the seat of former Senator Guy Velella. The former senator resigned this spring after pleading guilty to taking bribes while in office.
The seat is based in the Bronx and also includes parts of Westchester. Assemblyman Jeff Klein is running for the Democratic seat, Assemblyman John Fleming is running as the Republican candidate and Assemblyman Stephen Kaufman for the Conservative and Independent seat.
The seat has been in the hands of Republicans for years. If Klein wins, Republicans will be one step closer to losing control of the state Senate.
