Many Bronx residents turned out to vote on Election Day 2004

Bronx residents headed to the polls Tuesday to vote in the presidential election and several local races.

In the 34th District, Democrat Jeffery Klein was declared the winner over Republican John Fleming and Independent Stephen Kaufman. In another state Senate race, Democrat Jose Serrano defeated Republican Olga Mendez.The Senate seat won by Klein had been controlled by Republicans for years. The 34th state Senate seat was vacated when its previous occupant, Guy Velella, resigned after pleading guilty to bribery charges.
