Two residents injured after a fire tears through their Bedford Park apartment

Witnesses say it was a frantic scene Friday as residents tried to escape from the flames that broke out at an apartment building at 230 East 196th Street in Bedford Park.

One woman trapped inside a second-floor apartment thought about jumping but luckily firefighters arrived and were able to save her. Two others inside the apartment were also save by firefighters and are in critical but stable condition.

Firefighters say the flames broke out in the kitchen area of the apartment and quickly spread. At least a dozen families were affected by the blaze. It's unclear as to how many will be able to return to their apartments.
