Bronx landlords required by law to follow city heat guidelines

When it comes to staying warm, Bronx residents should know that all landlords are required by law to follow certain heating guidelines.

From October through the end of May, landlords must provide heat. During the daytime, heat is required to be on from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m if it's below 55 degrees. At night, the heat is required to be on from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. if it's below 40 degrees.

Legal action can be taken against landlords who fail to provide heat in their buildings. Tenants without heat can call the city's hotline at 311 for help.
