Commission that released Guy Velella may look to send him back to Rikers

The new members of the NYC Local Conditional Release commission ruled Monday that the release of former state Senator Guy Velella from Rikers Island was illegal.

The commission's decision mirrors the findings in a report released last week. Velella, who was a state senator in the Bronx and Westchester for 18 years, served only three months of a one-year sentence after pleading guilty to bribery charges.

Velella's release led to Mayor Bloomberg asking for the commission members to resign. He then appointed a new five-member panel.
