Riverdale residents express concern over MTA's takeover of private bus lines

Residents in Riverdale joined local officials and bus drivers Monday to voice concern over the MTA's scheduled takeover of private bus lines.

In less than a month, the MTA is set to takeover private bus lines throughout the city including Liberty Lines and New York Bus Service. As part of the takeover the MTA is proposing to raise fares for a one-way ticket from $4 to $5. The MTA may also cut weekend service and mid-day service during the week.

Residents who rely on the bus service say having to pay more is going to hurt. And drivers say they fear their jobs could be in jeopardy.

The MTA takeover has been delayed several times but may become a reality as of December 4.
