Demolition crews serve as unwelcome reminder to BX Terminal Market vendors

Signs of demolition crews and surveyors at the Bronx Terminal Market are just a painful reminder to vendors that they will soon be out of work.

Since learning the market would be closing to make room for a new retail space as part of a revitalization project, vendors have been struggling to figure out where they will set up shop. Customers are also worried because they depend on the goods sold at the market since many items can't be found in any regular store.

There's been talk of moving the market to Hunts Point but some vendors don't feel that is a good option. They say many customers don't have cars and there are no train stations near the proposed Hunts Point site.

As of now construction on the market is not set to begin for a couple of years. Representatives from the Bronx borough president's office say he is committed to making sure vendors are not left without a place to go.
