The city is being criticized for making mistakes with property tax rebates

The city is being criticized for writing property tax rebate checks to deceased home owners.

The city says the people who are receiving these checks are supposed to be getting bonuses from a 19-percent property tax increase in 2000. Unfortunately many of the checks were written to the person.

So far the city has received about 3,000 complaints from people having problems cashing their checks. They also say about 95.5 percent of the checks mailed out have the correct name on them.
