Falcons win their first city soccer championship title in school history
The Falcons won their first city championship title in school history. The Cardinal Spellman boys soccer team faced St. Johns Prep in the final game of the Catholic league Class B finals at St. Johns University.
Neither team scored before the halftime mark. Falcons Jaffer Daly tried to score with 10 seconds left the game, but the referee said he didnt beat the buzzer. The game went into overtime and then into penalty kicks.
In the first group of five penalty kicks, Spellman was down 4-3, but Matt Mulzac tied the score. In the second group, Spellman was down 6-5 and Michael Sellas tied the score. Finally in the third group, Spellmans keeper George Vretto blocked the final kick from St. Johns Prep, making the Falcons city champions.
