Judge rules former state Senator Velella can remain out of jail until next week

A judge has ruled that former state Senator Guy Velella can remain out of jail until at least Monday.

Velella was ordered to return to jail after the New York City Local Conditional Release Commission ruled Friday that his early release by the old members of the commission was illegal. Velella, who spent 18 years as a state senator in the Bronx and Westchester, served only three months of his one-year sentence after pleading guilty to bribery charges.

The judge will now rule on Monday whether or not Velella and two co-defendants must return to jail.
