BX and city day care workers voice anger at City Hall over contract negotiations
Bronx and city day care workers headed to City Hall Tuesday to voice their anger over the status of contract negotiations.
Workers say they have not had a contract for almost four years and have not had a raise in more than four years. Their major gripe is that they must be state certified yet make thousands less than city teachers. According to workers at one Mott Haven city funded center, negotiations are going terribly.
In 2003, thousands of day care workers staged a walkout and in 2004 they walked off the job for three days. Parents who rely on the workers say it's time for the city to pay up and give them what they want. They say if the centers shut down again it would be tough.
