Sleep expert in the Bronx has advice for residents having trouble sleeping
Studies show that thousands of Bronx residents are not getting enough sleep. A sleep expert at Montefiore Medical Center has some theories about why residents arent getting the proper amount of sleep.
Doctor Michael Thorpy says the end of daylight-saving time and the long winter months can play a role in how people sleep. He says stress, an illness or other disorders can also affect how much rest people get.
Thorpy says getting enough sunlight throughout the day can play a role in maintaining a good sleep and wake pattern. The doctor says the most important tip for folks to remember is to keep a regular sleep schedule. Some other tips include creating a relaxing evening and bedtime routine and limiting the amount of sleep time.
