Fire in Kingsbridge leaves child dead and his mother, sister in critical condition

A fire in a Kingsbridge apartment building killed an 8-year-old boy and left his mother and sister in critical condition Friday.

The two-alarm fire began shortly after 7:30 a.m. Fire officials say the mother escaped on her own and her children were both found in their rooms suffering from smoke inhalation. They say the boy died before making it to the hospital.

Neighbors say the mother ran a day care center out of the apartment and had it not been a holiday the home would have been filled with children when the fire broke out.
