Elderly man killed after fire rips through his sixth-floor apartment in Highbridge

An elderly man was killed Tuesday when a fire ripped through his sixth-floor apartment at 1080 Anderson Avenue in Highbridge.

Firefighters tried to save the 74-year-old man but it was too late. No other residents were injured but several firefighters had to be taken to Jacobi Medical Center.

Fire officials do not yet know the cause of the blaze. The blaze is not considered suspicious.
