MTA pauses construction in the White Plains shopping district for the holidays

The MTA has paused construction in the White Plains shopping district for the holidays.

Construction on the elevated Number 2 train has been going on for the past year and a half. MTA officials decided to stop the work until the new year so seasonal shopping wont be interrupted. Merchants in the area say they are grateful for the help, but they add that it might not be enough to save their struggling businesses.

Store owners say since the construction started, shoppers have been staying away because there is no available parking. Many merchants are worried shoppers who are not used to finding parking will not realize the construction has temporarily stopped and will not think to do their holiday shopping there.

Many Bronx residents are urged to take advantage of the construction-free time and visit the stores in the area. MTA officials say work on the elevated train should be completed by December 2005.

sorry to interrupt
