Deadline for Parkchester turkey plant to clean up its act fast approaching

The installation of a new air filtration system at LSK Smoked Turkey Products Inc. is underway Friday as the city imposed deadline for the company to clean up its act fast approaches.

Earlier in the year, the city's Environmental Control Board fined LSK for not meeting city pollution guidelines. The company now has until January 25 to complete the installation of the new air filtration system. If LSK fails to meet city standards by the deadline, it will be forced to shut down.

Residents hope the company makes the changes because they say the foul smell being omitted from the plant is unbearable.
