New technology at two Bronx post offices may ease holiday lines

Getting out those holiday cards and packages often means waiting at long lines at the post office, but this year new technology may alleviate that holiday crunch.

The new system to hit post offices in the Bronx is called Automated Postal Center or APC. It allows customers to ship packages on their own. One resident says it is great not to have to wait on a long line.

Right now, APC is available only in Mott Haven and Throgs Neck. Residents who can't get to those post offices are urged to try online shipping services.

U.S. Postal Service officials say to ensure packages and letters are received on time use First Class or Priority Mail. Items going oversees need to be sent by December 11, for out of state items the deadline is December 21 and for in state the deadline is December 22.
