Many Bronx seniors changing lifestyles with Silver Sneakers Fitness Program

Many Bronx seniors are changing their lives by participating in the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program at the YMCA in Castle Hill.

Program officials say it is for residents on Medicare or for people on disability. They add that it was created almost ten years ago on the West Coast, but has slowly made its way to the Bronx. They say the classes focus on total body muscular strength, conditioning and socialization.

Those seniors already taking advantage of the program say it is never too late to work at improving their health. Program officials say it is free and open to any Bronx resident who qualifies. They add that there is no time limit to how long people can be involved in the program. Many seniors say they plan on staying in the program for life.
