NYPD launches new initiative to fight crime on Fordham Road

The NYPD has launched a new initiative to fight crime in one of the Bronx's busiest shopping districts.

As part of the initiative, surveillance cameras have been placed along Fordham Road from Webster Avenue to the Grand Concourse. Police are hoping this will deter crime and help them pinpoint just who is committing crimes.

The installation of the surveillance cameras has sparked debate. Some civil liberties groups feel the cameras are a violation of privacy, while storeowners think the initiative is a great idea.

Signs in English and Spanish will be placed along Fordham Road to alert people about the cameras.
