American Red Cross urges BX residents to dress in layers during arctic blast

Although winter doesn't officially begin until Tuesday, temperatures in the Bronx have dipped below freezing. That's why residents are urged to either stay indoors or dress in layers Monday.

With Christmas just a few days a way, residents were out and about in Hunts Point. Many were bundled up and even spotted buying hats and gloves as the mercury dipped into the teens. With the wind chill it's expected to feel below zero.

So to keep warm, the American Red Cross says residents should dress in layers, wear mittens instead of gloves, wear hats and recognize the signs of hypothermia and frostbite.
