Bronx Museum of Arts undergoing ambitious expansion project
The Bronx Museum of Arts is undergoing a major expansion project that is not only expected to boost its number of visitors but also help put in on the map.
The director says the museum is still not that well known and believes the expansion will really help draw attention to the museum. Phase one of the project includes adding galleries, classrooms, offices and public spaces. In phase two, a residential tower of moderate-income condominiums will be built.
The design for the expansion was created by an internationally renowned architecture firm and includes a unique faade. The first phase is scheduled to be completed by next year, and is expected to draw an additional 20,000 visitors. Phase two of the $14 million project is not supposed to be completed until 2008.
