Doctors urge Bronx residents to keep homes clean to control dust mite levels

With such a high rate of asthma in the Bronx, doctors urge residents to keep homes clean in order to control dust mite levels.

According to Dr. David Collymore of the Soundview Healthcare Center, dust mites can exacerbate asthma. One resident who suffers from asthma agrees and says that's why she cleans once a week.

To keep the dust mite levels down, Dr. Collymore suggests washing bed linens and curtains once a week, and vacuuming carpets and furniture once a week. He also recommends using a dehumidifier and air filter as well as pillow and mattress covers made for allergy sufferers.
