Bronx athletes dominate at the Heisman PSAL Wingate Award ceremony
Athletes in the Bronx scored big at the recent PSAL Wingate Award ceremony.
Awards for the fall were handed out and Bronx athletes in four of the 10 sports won. Francisco Santos from Lehman won for football, Kennedy's Yarmeli Gonzalez took home the award for girls volleyball, and Bronx Science's Lucy Liu won for girls swimming and Kelly Leung for girls golf.
Santos had 23 receptions for 636 yards and 11 touchdowns for Lehman this year. He also played stellar defense, intercepting two balls and recovering a fumble. Gonzalez led the league in kills with 168. He also led in digs with 195. Liu didn't lose an individual event the entire season, leading Bronx Science to its 5th straight PSAL girls swimming and diving team championship. As for Leung, she has been one of the top golfers in the city since her freshman year. She led Bronx Science to the division title four years in row.
