Residents of a Williamsbridge complex making a stink over trash problems

Residents of one Williamsbridge housing complex are making a stink over a growing trash problem just feet from their homes.

Penny Hampton is just one resident at the Eastchester Heights Housing Complex who is tired of the smell coming from the complex's garbage dump. She claims there is so much trash that it blocks walkways.

The residents say the problem has been ongoing but has recently grown worse. Dried up Christmas trees, torn up wrapping paper and empty food containers are just some of the items sitting at the dump. Numerous calls to management, maintenance, the sanitation department and the local community board have not helped, according to the residents.

But after receiving a call from News 12 The Bronx, the housing complex's maintenance staff was out clearing the trash. A spokesperson from the local community board says the compactor at the housing complex is broken, but assures residents that the trash will be cleaned up.
