Mayor Bloomberg takes ride on express buses now controlled by MTA

Mayor Bloomberg greeted morning riders in Riverdale Tuesday on the first day of a new era of express bus service.

Liberty Bus Lines rolled out their new look on the first day of control under the MTA. After many delays, the MTA finally took over the first of seven private bus lines in the city. MTA officials say the routes between the Bronx and Manhattan will not change.

In order to improve service, the MTA says 10 new buses will be used in the Bronx immediately. Federal funding will help modernize express bus service by adding more than 100 buses citywide. The city and the MTA plan to take over the six other private bus lines by April 30..
