Bronx fifth graders hold weekend classes to prepare for new promotion test

(01/08/05) WAKEFIELD - Thousands of Bronx and city fifth graders spent Saturday at school to prepare for their promotion test in the spring.

This class of youngsters is the first set to hold weekend classes for the mayor's new promotion policy, which was announced last September. Now just like third graders, fifth graders will have to pass a test to move onto the next grade.

The Department Of Education set up the weekend preparatory academics for Bronx and city students who were considered at risk of failing the test. Next month, parents of the students will be invited to take a few classes on how to prepare their children for middle school.
