Bronx artist Edith Marrero shows off paintings at gallery in Kingsbridge Heights
(01/08/05) KINGSBRIDGE HEIGHTS - Bronx artist Edith Marrero is showing her paintings at the Vladeck Hall Gallery in Kingsbridge Heights this weekend.
The Puerto Rican-born Marrero says she came to painting late in life. She says she was told she was too old to learn, but that did not stop her. Marrero taught herself to paint well enough to get accepted to the Pratt Institute, where she graduated on the dean's list. She went on to teach painting for 15 years while she perfected her craft. Now, she says she makes her living exclusively by selling her paintings.
Marrero uses her kitchen as a studio and she now has more than 800 paintings stuffed into her one-bedroom apartment. She says she hopes to sell all of them.
