Bronx home to priceless mansion built in 1840 overlooking the coastline
It's a treasure nestled along the coastline in Pelham Bay Park and part of the historical society's effort to highlight the best the Bronx has to offer.
The Bartow-Pell Manor is a nine-acre estate that was built in 1840 by the Bartow family. The pride of the home is the staircase, which is made completely of wood. The house overlooks Orchard Beach and City Island and at one time was one of 25 mansions along the coastline.
In the late 1800s, the city purchased the mansion, which is now part of the parks department. Known as the most rural address in New York City, it's a place for all New Yorkers to discover.
