Bronx doctor emphasizes importance of high blood pressure screening

High blood pressure is sometimes called a silent killer. That's why one Bronx doctor is emphasizing the importance of high blood pressure screening.

Dr. Robert Ostfeld, of Montefiore Medical Center, says high blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, strokes, and heart and liver failure. He says regular blood pressure screenings are essential. And those who suffer from diabetes or hypertension should be screened more regularly. One problem Dr. Ostfeld has noticed is an increase in the risk of kids developing high blood pressure.

For those trying to manage high blood pressure, eating a low-fat diet and exercising is key.
