Charges pending against teens questioned in death of newborn in the Bronx
Charges are still pending against the two teens questioned in the death of a newborn in the Bronx.
A 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were identified as the parents of the baby found dead in a bag outside a church last Friday. Residents who heard about the tragedy have set up a memorial outside the church, and are asking whether the death could have been avoided if the teens knew they had options.
Experts say teens need to know that there are ways for them to give up their babies safely. Under the Abandoned Infant Protection Act, new mothers can leave their babies at safe places such as hospitals or police stations and remain anonymous.
