NY Blood Center holds blood drive in honor of firefighters killed in Bronx blaze

The New York Blood Center is holding a blood drive Wednesday in honor of fallen or injured firefighters, specifically those who lost their lives last week in East Tremont.

The blood drive is taking place at the Bronx County Courthouse and is open to everyone. A number of firefighters attended to donate blood and say the drive holds special meaning. The fire commissioner says firefighters have a great understanding for the importance of donating because burn injuries require a lot of blood.

Blood drive organizers say the blood supply is low. Most in need is type O blood, which is the universal blood type.

Meantime, the fire commissioner says the firefighters injured in last week's blaze remain in critical but stable condition.

For more information call the blood center at 1-800-933-2566.
