Bronx Guild High School principal, school aid back in court on assault charges

The Bronx Guild High School principal and a school aid were back in court Friday to answer to assault charges.

Police say Principal Michael Siguero and school aid James Bergos attacked a safety officer, who was in the process of arresting a 16-year-old student. Both Siguero and Bergos are charged with assault and obstructing governmental administration. They were released on their own recognizances. The student is charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

The attorney for Bergos says he's asking for the case to be re-evaluated. He said it's time to decide who runs our schools. He added although order is needed, this case goes over the line. Both men are due back in court March 23.

Meantime, the Department of Education is deciding whether or not to take disciplinary action against Siguero and Bergos.
