Small school in Melrose helps pave way for kids seeking future jobs in sports
Teens hoping to someday land a job in the sports field can hone their skills at the Academy for Careers in Sports, which is one of three smaller schools located inside the old South Bronx High School.
The school offers a curriculum for students interested in sports careers while mixing in regular academic classes. Students learn everything from management and business to law and sports medicine. Educators say the key is that there is no skipping out on academics. They hope one day students will go on to become journalists, agents or lawyers.
One student said she wants to work in government to make sure the importance of sports is recognized and programs are not cut.
