The Bronx celebrates Black History Month with annual concert

The annual Black History Month celebration, a Bronx tradition started by borough president Adolfo Carrion, Jr., was held Friday night at the Greater Faith Temple Church.

This year's theme, "Lift Every Voice," featured the acts of the borough's most popular gospel choirs and honored various Bronx community and religious leaders. The theme derives from the Negro spiritual "Lift Every Voice and Sing," a song many refer to as the Black National Anthem.

Carrion says he plans on holding next year's celebration at the Greater Faith Temple Church again, with the theme of celebration through jazz.
