Public housing in the Bronx and city to get complete overhaul

Public housing throughout the Bronx and city will be getting a complete overhaul thanks to a $2 billion project announced by the mayor Monday.

Bronx residents who have complained about the conditions in public housing over the years will now begin to see improvements. Mayor Bloomberg says housing units will receive kitchen and bath upgrades. In addition, elevators and roofing will be fixed, and electricity will be upgraded.

Mayor Bloomberg says the project is important to residents living in public housing. He says the project will help preserve quality of life. So far there is no time frame as to when the renovations will begin, but the mayor said everything would be done in stages over the next several years.
