City officials demand answers concerning safety, discipline at many Bronx schools

Smoke bombs and pepper spray inside Walton High School has many city officials demanding answers concerning safety at schools throughout the Bronx.

Some City Council members fear police officers are now running the hallways of many Bronx schools. Some members are concerned about the materials the officers are using to discipline the students.

Some Walton High School students testified stink bombs and pepper spray are routinely used to break up fights. However, education officials say they only know of two incidents where stink bombs were used at the school this year. Education officials also say since Walton is an impact school, police officers who walk the halls are authorized to carry pepper spray.
