Parkchester residents still crying 'fowl' over smell coming from turkey factory

Residents in Parkchester who live near L.S.K. Smoked Turkey Products Inc. say there is still an unbearable smell coming from the plant despite efforts to alleviate the problem.

The residents have been complaining for two years about the odor, and in that time the factory has received numerous violations. The city ordered the factory to clean up its act by January 25, which it did by adding an air filtration system.

Still residents say it has not helped. One resident called in the Department of Environmental Protection to once again check out the situation at the plant. The DEP says the smell came back Wednesday because an employee turned on an old switch. DEP officials say an old fan shot out fumes. They add they will continue to monitor the factory.

Councilwoman Annabel Palma (D-Bronx) has set up a complaint hotline for residents at (718) 589-9166.
