City Council strengthens restrictions on development in certain BX areas
The City Council recently approved an amendment that strengthens a law designed to keep the Bronx beautiful and protect areas designated as natural area districts.
A chunk of Riverdale and all of Fieldston are two areas designated as natural area districts. The special distinction means that developers and homeowners must obtain a permit before they change the natural landscape of any property.
The goal is to prevent overdevelopment of areas such as Fieldston, which boasts tree-lined streets and homes built on natural rock formations. The City Council, city planning, mayor and local community board all contributed to the effort to preserve the area.
Anyone caught building without a permit in a natural area district will be fined.
