BJ's denied application to build store on Brush Avenue in the Bronx

The City Council Land Use Committee has denied the wholesale chain BJ's application to build a store in the Bronx.

The store was hoping to move into a site located at the corner of Brush Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard. Many in the community were opposed to the store moving in while others including the borough president were disappointed by the decision. Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. said the store would have brought at least 250 new jobs and much needed industry to the Bronx.

The matter will now go before the full City Council, which will vote on whether to uphold the ruling. If BJ's application is still denied, the store can sue to try and have the decision overturned.
