Bronx seniors may soon get discounts on prescription drugs

Bronx seniors may soon start seeing a discount on their prescription drugs.

The City Council passed a bill Wednesday that would provide seniors and the working poor with a discount prescription drug card. The discount cards would be used at participating pharmacies. Lawmakers say the participating pharmacies would buy drugs from the city, which would buy the drugs in bulk at a lower price in order to discount them for seniors.

One Bronx resident at a senior center says since she is on a fixed income and a reduction of any kind would be very helpful. The bill will become a law if Mayor Bloomberg signs off on it. The program could begin as soon as two months.
