Bronx doctor expresses importance of limiting amount of juice given to kids

Parents who give their children a lot of juice to drink may be doing more harm than good. Experts say drinking water is better than drinking juice.

According to one Bronx doctor, the sugar and calories in juice may not be beneficial to children. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends babies less than 6 months old not be given juice at all. Kids over a year old should only consume eight ounces or a cup a day of juice.

Doctors also suggest giving kids fruit instead of serving them juice. Giving kids a well balanced died with servings of fruit and vegetables will ensure that children are getting the necessary vitamins and minerals needed.
